Detailed description of Boston Corners Golf Club, CLOSED 2007

Boston Corners Golf Club, previously named Stansfield Links Golf Course is a Semi-Private, 9 hole golf course located in Millerton, New York.

Millerton, has been called one of the "10 coolest towns in America" by Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel. The town, and Boston Corners Golf Club are just two hours north of New York City by car or train, nestled in a perfect location in the foothills of the Taconic Mountains surrounded by Columbia County, New York; the Berkshires of Massachusetts, and the hills of Litchfield County, Connecticut.

Boston Corners Golf Club first opened for play in 1987. The course was designed by Stephen Kay.

Boston Corners Golf Course is a nine hole links style course. The rolling fairways lead to ample greens, offering several challenging pin placements. The land upon which the course is constructed was originally sovereign land in the 1800's, seceded from Massachusetts. Prior to its eventual annexation by New York State, this parcel of land was known as "Hell's Acres", and was a haven for criminals and their ilk.

The course plays from 2,728 to 3,010-yards, and offers an additional set of men's tees when playing an eighteen hole round.

Boston Corners Golf Club closed in 2007.

This course was a hidden gem. I was sorry to hear it closed. I was told it sold for housing but I haven't been back to see. John Sands ran it for a while and did a great job. Novelist Eliot Asinof (author of of the best selling book Eight Men Out, The Fox is Crazy Too, and several others) was a member and shot his age or better almost every day from the time he turned 74. He was joy to play golf with and insisted on walking and carrying own golf bag no matter the weather conditions. Just off the third tee there was (I hope it's still there) a historic marker on the spot of famous bare knuckle fight, with the wrong date no less! It reads. “Famous Prize Fight won by John Morrissey over ‘Yankee’ Sullivan in this area on Oct. 5, 1883 (note: it actually 1853!) lasted 37 rounds and was witnessed by more than 3,000 people.” The Stansfield Links was a magical place.

Would travel: 60-120 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again
